FOLK HOUSE

The first thing you will notice upon entering our Reception Hall is that it is warm and quiet.

more

If you visit us in the winter, when the snow falls heavy and deep, the first thing you will notice upon entering our Reception Hall is that it is warm and quiet. We spared no expense on insulation to ensure a warm interior, all while maintaining the striking traditional lacquered zelkova woodwork. We use four different kinds of heaters to keep the building warm and cozy, providing you with the utmost comfort regardless of the weather outside. Even after the weather warms up, the sheen of the luxurious wood floors and the soft cushion of the tatami provide a relaxing, at-home atmosphere.

NATURE

Blessed with three different mountain ranges and many of the numerous mountain streams can be fished.

more

Blessed with three different mountain ranges, the Minami-uonuma region provides breathtaking views as well as venues for hiking, trekking, mountain biking, skiing, and snowboarding. Natural hot springs offer a relaxing respite any time of year, and the mountains are home to an abundance of fresh, delicious spring water. From summer into early autumn, the rice paddies gradually turn from green to gold ahead of the harvest, and in late October and November the brightly colored tapestry of autumn leaves is accented by the mountains, which start to get their first snow caps around the same time.

ONSEN

Our very own onsen, is a sodium chloride / bicarbonate hot spring that belongs to the Ōsawayama Onsen area.

more

Onsen are natural hot springs, and due to its volcanic activity, Japan is home to roughly 28,000 hot springs in over 3,000 distinct onsen areas. Our very own onsen, Amanogawa, is a sodium chloride / bicarbonate hot spring that belongs to the Ōsawayama Onsen area—a historic cluster of hot springs quietly nestled in the mountains that have attracted bathers since the 17th century. The brownish flecks in the water are mineral deposits. Please enter and exit the bath with care as these can gather on the bottom of the tub making it slippery.

HOW TO ENJOY: ONSEN ETIQUETTE

In Japan, you are expected to bathe nude without wearing a swimsuit. First, wash your entire body at one of the shower stations, then splash a few basinfuls of the hot water on your body. You should soak the bottom half of your body for a while before fully immersing yourself up to your shoulders. But don’t stay in too long. Once you leave the bath, the suggested etiquette is to dry off without rinsing to allow the therapeutic minerals to seep into your pores. Please make sure you replenish your fluids after bathing, and you should avoid bathing immediately after eating and/or drinking alcohol.
